Pure water is absolutely vital for great health. For the last 10 years I have been blessed to live in the country and have access to well water. Although this too can have contaminants, it is far superior to the tap water that is available in most developed areas. When we go to visit friends that have what we call city water we are sure to bring some of our own along! The list of the gross stuff found in your average tap water is boggling.
Many people have become aware of this and started buying bottled water. This is not the best strategy. First off, they have found that much ’spring’ water is merely regular municipal water that’s been bottled. Secondly it’s extremely environmentally unfriendly…the water is taken from some local water table, packed in plastic and shipped to the store. Not good….Finally, it’s expensive!
A much cheaper and economical solution is a water filter. The brand I recommend is Aquasana. Their filters were rated best buy by Consumers Digest for the last 4 years. ANd they’re affordable. You can get very expensive with water filters, but you can get a drinking water kit for $120. A shower kit for $79.
If you find yourself buying a lot of spring water this will pay for itself fast. If you are drinking regular tap water then I would highly recommend doing some research on what it is you’re putting in your body every day. From Live Science:
Benjamin Grumbles, who heads EPA’s Office of Water, said that “for the chemicals the agency regulates, nearly 100 percent of the community water systems that provide drinking water to the majority of Americans are meeting clean drinking water standards. We also have a process to continuously identify new contaminants for which regulation could reduce risks.'’
Jane Houlihan, EWG’s vice president for research, said the group’s findings show that the United States allows millions of people to be exposed to some chemicals for which EPA either has never considered the risks or if it has, has no enforceable limits.
In other words…it’s up to you to make sure your drinking water is safe for you and your family. Luckily it’s as simple as buying a good filter.
