No Dental Insurance? This Will Help

Need dental work but have no insurance? If you’re one of the millions of people in this category you already know how tough that can be. Dental prices are grossly inflated to take advantage of the insurance companies who then create high prices for their dental insurance. It’s a loop of greed that leaves many people out in the cold.

Last year I needed some serious dental work…fillings, wisdom teeth removed and more. Working for myself, I had no dental insurance and it had been years and years since I had been to a dentist. One day I happened across dentalplans.com. This is not insurance, but a discount plan for those without insurance. Dental work still costs quite a bit even with this plan but is definitely discounted. To give you some examples:

When I first went in to a dentist they insisted on doing a comprehensive new patient exam with x-rays and all. This would normally have cost $160, but instead cost around $60. As dentalplans.com only cost me $110 for the year it had already almost paid for itself!

* I went in for wisdom teeth extraction. It was still quite expensive, but the plan saved me over $200.

For fillings, the savings were around $50 for each.

During the course of the year I saved around $600-$700. I still spent a lot of money, but at a cost of $110, this was a really good deal. A couple of times I needed prescriptions and I saved on those as well. Some of the plans have discounts for prescriptions, eyeglasses etc and some don’t so look at them closely if you would like those things. The only real drawback was that you needed to choose a dentist who takes the plan. There were quite a few to choose from on their list. Also, if you have a dentist in mind, you can call them to see if they would consider taking it.

Overall, I would highly recommened dentalplans.com. Though it is not comprehensive dental coverage, it saved me hundreds of dollars and can do the same for you.

Garden Planet

I am currently re-reading this little gem and was struck once again by what a truly valuable book this is. For some time now I have been looking ahead into the coming destruction of civilization as we know it with some apprehension. I have heard that there is a Chinese ‘curse’ that says something to the effect of “May you live in interesting times’. As we stand on the threshhold of the apocalypse in so many ways we can at least say that these are interesting times.

This book outlines clearly and concisely JUST how screwed our civilization is. With many examples, the author guides the reader through all of the different things that are pulling our civilization apart. This beginning part is a bit depressing…however in the rest of the book he holds out the idea that if enough people can learn to live in harmony with the earth, then they can serve as a blueprint for a new and emerging human culture that will take the best parts of civilization and leave the rest of the rotting corpse behind. If enough people shift their consciousness now to sustainable and communal living, the shift will also not be so hard, This book is fairly short and easy to read. It’s not preachy and will surely inspire you to make positive changes in your life. Highly recommended.

The Raw Foods Bible

The Raw Foods Bible was written by Craig Sommers, a Naturopathic Doctor, certified nutritionist and friend of mine. Craig’s diet is 90%+ raw food and it shows. He has clear eyes, tons of energy and overall vibrant health. He is someone who has tested the information in his book in the laboratory of his own life.

I really enjoyed this book and can wholeheartedly recommend it. There is excellent, concise information on all aspects of the raw food diet. In addition, there are full chapters on many other facets of healthy living including how to avoid radiation, harmful chemicals and many other vital topics that other raw food books do not touch upon.

There is also a lot of inspiration including information about prominent raw food advocates as well as a good collection of easy raw food recipes. Overall it is a very enjoyable, inspirational and above useful book about living a living foods diet. Get it and change your life!
